Světlo na konci tunelu české digitalizace

Light at end of Czech digital tunnel
The Czech government has endorsed the idea of a new media law to unblock the current impasse surrounding the award of digital TV licences. A statement released earlier this week implied that the digital TV licences granted to and subsequently withdrawn from six companies last year – Febio TV, TV Barrandov, TV Pohada, Ocko, RTA and Z1 – would be restored. The national commercial broadcaster TV Nova has since issued a statement with a list of questions it feels should be answered ahead of such a move. It fears loss of market share and is critical about lack of clarity in the whole transition to digital broadcasting, due to be completed in 2010. CME-owned TV Nova has an analogue licence valid until 2017, while its rival Prima TV, which is backed by MTG, has one until 2018.
